Official Re-opening of Margaret Bowater Park

Honourable Premier, Mayor Greeley – ladies and gentlemen. It’s a great pleasure to be here in Corner Brook today – to represent the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, and the Government of Canada – and to share in this very exciting official opening with you. The Government of Canada is pleased to have partnered with the province and the City of Corner Brook to see these important improvements made to this beautiful park. This investment in recreational infrastructure is really an investment in the families and businesses that are building their futures right here in Corner Brook. Our funding of $725,000 for the improvements to the park came from the federal Recreational Infrastructure Fund. This fund is a key part of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. As we begin the new mandate, our Government will continue to support job creation and economic expansion through targeted initiatives. As a national Government, our role is to work with our partners, the provincial government and with communities—like the City of Corner Brook—to build a strong economy by identifying opportunities for growth and building on local strengths. The work you have done to renew this historic park is another reflection of the strong partnership our Government has developed with communities in Newfoundland and Labrador through the work of federal agencies such as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. In that regard, I am honoured to be here with you today as we continue to work together on economic challenges and opportunities, ensuring that communities across Newfoundland and Labrador continue to build for the future and are positioned for new growth. We all know that Atlantic Canadians have always had the drive, ability and determination to build a prosperous future for our families and our communities. This park and the wonderful improvements that you have made here, serve as great examples of how, with everyone working together, we can continue to meet the challenges, and seize the opportunities before us.
