Mr. David Denison
President and Chief Executive Officer
CPP Investment Board
One Queen Street East
Suite 2600, PO Box 101
Toronto ON M5C 2W5

Dear Mr. Denison:

I am deeply concerned over the ongoing violence in Burma (Myanmar). For over three decades, Burma’s military junta has suppressed parties working for democratic reform and denied citizens the right to practice freedom of speech, assembly, and association.
These oppressive polices will undoubtedly persist as the military junta continues to reap the rewards of foreign investment.

Recognizing that the Government of Canada discourages organizations from developing new commercial ties with the military junta, please indicate whether or not the CPP Investment Board maintains any direct or indirect holdings in companies operating in Burma.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Senator
Percy E. Downe
